Holiday Treats by Pre Schoolers

As a gift to the parents the kids in The Phi's class put together a book of recipes of their favorite holiday treats. Very cute! So we open the table of contents and and find The Phi's contribution. Among recipes for Chocolate chip cookies and cookies with sprinkles. There on page 8 is The Phi's recipe for Corn. Just corn.

"We just have the corn at our house. Put the corn in pan with water and milk. Cook it on the stove for 5 minutes. After 5 minutes it's hot and you have to cool it down, just blow on it. Then you eat it was a fork, not a spoon"

Funniest thing ever!!!!

I am in love......

After much driving and anxiousness I finally made it to the hospital to see "Sam" and the brand spanking new Eli. He is absolutely perfect and more gorgeous than should be legally allowed. Take a looksie for yourself....

I'm in love.....
I know right?
Look at those lips!!! Mom and Baby are doing well. Recovering from a emergency c-section will not be easy but they will both be fine and up and around in no time.

I cannot even tell you how in love I am with this little guy already. He is alert and strong and feisty when he needs to be. Despite the 25 hours of labor, and the c-section "Sam" was already in full Mom mode. She was born for this.

Welcome to the world Eli! Your mom claims they didn't name you after me, but subconsciously she totally named you after me. Oh the stories I will be able to tell you about me and your Momma. But when you are older, much much older. There is so much to teach you and show you. So many books, so many pieces of art, so much music, and just world to show you. We are going to have so much fun exploring and learning and just wreaking havoc in general.

And don't worry about The Phi. She says she doesn't like babies. And well that is true, but you won't be a baby for long. Once you can play with a hot wheels car you two will be the best of friends.

Holiday Starts Early. Thanks Eli!

So our holiday travel plans have been pushed up one day. We are heading out right after work tonite. Why you? Well because my BFF Sam (aka Crissy) is in the hospital having her baby! One week early. Yes, her water broke yesterday and she has been in the hospital since about 5 pm yesterday. I cannot concentrate on anything else. I want to be there, but I have some work things to take care of first. So today should be the day and Sam will spend Christmas in the hospital will baby Eli in her arms and I am sure it will be her best Christmas ever!

I Love Gaps

So A while ago I was going to write about how much I am digging Facebook. Over the weekend I was reminded why Facebook is awesome. It is like the new Myspace and over the last few months A LOT of my high school classmates have joined Facebook and we have all added each other as friends. I am reconnecting with people I have not spoken to in probably over 10 years! Over the weekend using the chat feature I chatted with Mike H. for well over an hour. Despite the fact that when we were in high school we didn;t even have cell phones, instant messaging is still such a great way to chat.

After catching each other up on what we have been doing for the last 10+ years we just talked and became as close as we were in high school. Somehow the conversation turned to how Mike had the gap in his front teeth filled. I was appalled. I couldn't believe it and I told him how much I liked gaps in front teeth. Gaps and lisps I adore. I have no idea why, but I really do. I remember when The Phi started to get teeth and I thought, "Man I hope she has a gap!". Many think of gaps as a flaw, but I really think it gives people character and its so darn cute. There are many famous people with gaps, Madonna, Elton John, Mike Tyson, etc... So who is your favorite gapped person?

Christmas with Grandma

We had out first Christmas celebration last night. I made my mother-in-laws favorite, chicken spaghetti and we all sat and had dinner together. Then we sat around the tree with a nice fire in the fire place and opened gifts. The Phi was stoked with her new toys and her new Wall-E movie! And Grandma Kim liked the pajamas we bought her and she really liked the photo book we made for her. I got a new pair of red pajamas that will be perfect for Christmas morning. PR Dad got the Tropic Thunder movie he asked for and we also got a new set of silverware! After presents we made some sugar cookies and hot chocolate and watched The Frosty movie (again!).

I really like that we do this with PR Dad's Mom before Christmas. Instead of rushing on Christmas Eve or day we get to enjoy some quality time together. See each other open gifts and The Phi gets some alone time with her Grandma Kim.

In the Spirit of the Season

The Phi is absolutely head over heels in love with Christmas this year. She oohhs and ahhs over each and every Christmas light and decoration. She has been learning Christmas songs and asking over and over to watch her Frosty the Snowman movie. She is excited about all the presents under the tree and concerned about Santa finding her at Nana and Tata's house.

Tree and Garland

It is hard not to get caught up in The Phi's excitement. We have been doing all kinds of Christmas-y stuff around the house. Wrapping gifts, listening to Xmas music, doing snowman arts and crafts, and even building and decorating a gingerbread house.

DSC_0004

Tonite we officially start off our Christmas celebrations. PR Dad's Mom is coming over for dinner and gifts. And right now The Phi is at her school at their Christmas party. We have only 2 more gifts to buy and then we are ready for the big day!

Let It Snow

So it finally got cold around here. We had a lot of rain on Monday. Tuesday was cold. Wednesday we woke up to more rain. I took The Phi to school and settled into my office. An hour or so later I looked out my window to this......

DSC04739

SNOW! In the desert. I could not believe it. I have never seen it snow so much before. Okay I know that this is nothing compared to let's say Chicago. But it doesn't snow here. I asked Mr. Lady (who is a snow expert) what I should do about this snow. She told me to put on 2 pairs of socks and go out and play. She failed to mention that Chuck Taylors are not appropriate snow shoes. My feet were so cold. And those Chuck's don't have much grip at the bottom to I had to take really careful steps.

After another day of shopping we came home to find the Fairlane with a nice coating of snow.

It was so strange to see signs and street lights covered in all the white stuff.

And holy crap was it cold....

I Want To Be Sedated

So The Phi has her very first dentist appointment yesterday. Luckily PR Dad had the day off. We expected the worst. We expected screaming, crying, and having to either strap her to the chair or reschedule and try again another day. As we got to the office The Phi was a tiny be apprehensive. As soon as we walked into the waiting room. A waiting room with a Christmas tree, a big table of toys and Beauty and The Beast playing on the TV. The Phi was in heaven. We waited a long time to be seen and it was awful for PR Dad and I. We were anxious and nervous, but The Phi enjoyed the time and played and watched her movie. Finally they called us back.

Cleaning done and while waiting for the dentist The Phi got to brush a fishes teeth.

1st Dentist Visit
And a bonus! They played her new favorite Christmas movie, Frosty the Snowman. Yes they had flat screens mounted to the ceiling.

The Phi did an amazing amazing job. Not even a look of hesitation or fear in her eyes. The dentist staff was awesome. The explained everything in a way that kids understand. The office was decorated in beautiful murals. The Phi was in the "under the sea" room. Her cleaning and check up went flawlessly. Her teeth looked great, no cavities and almost no plaque. She has all her teeth and won't be getting anymore until about 6 years old. Then they gave her a little bag filled with Spongebob toothpaste, a little dinosaur flosser, cinnamon dental floss, and a Mermaid Dora toothbrush. THEN she got to pick a prize from the treasure chest AND a sticker. The kid was stoked.

1st Dentist Visit
evidence of stokedness! (and of clean teeth!)

We could have been prouder of The Phi. As we got in the car I called my Mom to let her know how it all went. My Mom said oh so very nonchalantly that she was glad it went well with The Phi because when I was little I had to be "medicated" to have my teeth cleaned and checked. Oh man. That explains a lot. I hate the dentist with a passion that could set the world on fire.

And It is freaking snowing here right now. Like snow falling from the sky. Here. Now. I have never seen snow like this. Ever in my whole life. (Can you tell I am a California girl!)

Ornament Tradition

This is an annual Christmas tradition that my Mom started when we were little and PR Dad and I adopted when we bought our house. Every year we buy a ornament for our tree that symbolizes something significant that happened that year. We have only been in our house since 2004 so we only have a few but I thought I would share.

2004
DSC_0023
The day that we got the call that our bid had been accepted and the house was ours we were at Disneyland with my niece The Chone. We were so excited and we bought this ornament for our first Christmas in our very own "castle".

2005

Nothing more significant than having your first baby. Yes this is the "The Phi was born" ornament.

2006
DSC_0026
We actually bought this one in 2007 because in 2006 we could not find one. Glad we waited because this one is perfect. It is a big diamond ring with a bride and groom flamingo sitting in it. In 2006 PR Dad and I got married and flamingos were a part of the wedding decor.

2007

In 2007 we lost my cousin Roman. PR Dad found this ornament and it is a perfect one for 2007. Because if Roman was anything it was a rocker!

This year we are searching for a school bus ornament to mark The Phi starting school. Unfortunately the search has not been easy or successful.

What kind of traditions do you have for the holidays?
