Way Too Close to Chuck E Cheese

So someone at PR Dads work mentioned this new Pizza buffet place. So we went to check out John's Incredible Pizza Co. When we walked in I was like "Damn it this is just like Chuck E Cheese". And well I had already decided that Chuck E Cheese trips were a Nana and Tata thing. So we go in and find that kids 2 and under are free (YES!) and adults are only about $8. Nice and cheap, just how I like it. So we head toward the buffet and load up on salad, pastas, pizzas, baked potatoes etc.. It was the typical cafeteria style buffet. The Phi stocked up on Mac and Cheese and crackers. That kid loves her carbs. Then we had a choice of rooms to dine in. There was the "Vertical" room that was filled with grass umbrellas, and surf motifs with large screen TVs and surf movies going on, then there was the "Toon" room with big bubbly and colorful tables and chairs and big screen playing Bugs Bunny and Jetsons cartoons, the "Log Cabin" room that just looked too much like our den, but still looked very homey. Then there was the "Sports" room with well a sports theme. We decided on the "Toon" room. Good choice. The Phi sat and ate without getting up. Of course her eyes were glued to the big screens. Now the dining rooms are on the opposite end of the building as the game room. So after we ate we headed to the game room. This place is new so everything was shiney new and working! We walked around a bit and checked out all the cool games. We found some abandonded tickets, then we found a game that someone had not finished playing so PR Dad hit it up and got us more tickets. After finding a good amount of tickets we headed to the prize booth where The Phi chose a red car crayon and little plush football over the princess fairy wand. (Ah proud Mom!)

The Phi and PR Dad

We tried the spicy peanut butter pizza. Sounds gross but surprisingly good!

Lately the world is just was too loud for The Phi. You can often find her doing this.

Renaissance Man

He does it all. Uncle Sam is a certified Mercedes Mechanic and can fix anything, a Army Veteran, Roack Band expert and yes he even can sew! After we had dinner Sam spent a good hour trying and successfully figuring out the on-loan sewing machine we have (the one that came with no user manual and is from the 70's). As a kid his grandmother taught him how to use a sewing machine and he would help her with her quilts. Okay all together now..awwwwwwww.

So Sam made it look so easy, but when I tried at it yesterday I spent about an hour and a half in complete frustration and never even got one stitch done! Errrrrr.

Monday Monday

The sickness that I was feeling is now pretty much over. I was feeling better by Sunday, now my voice is just a little bit off. My voice is going weird when I talk. I sound like Julia Roberts. Anywas the weekend was pretty chill. Just spent playing candyland with The Phi, doing laundry, taking bubble baths, watching the movie "Waitress", watching some of the Oscars and ended on a high note with dinner with Uncle Sammy the Bull. The weather was cold and rainy but today the skies are clear and a little bit warm. The Phi has been talking about going back to Sea World. She said she wanted to take Nina and Nino because she thinks Nina would like the Penguins and Nino would like the sharks.

The sea turtles were still feeling romantic.
I was loving all the gorgeous coral. Gave me inspiration for my fiber work.
So I cannot stay away from this Mexican market in town. These peanuts are part of the reason. The pan dulce is the other!

An Illness Poem

Crappy crap crap I am sick
and I feel really really ick
the blame is all on Joey
who got too close to me when it was snowy
now I am achy and sore
and chilled to the core
my nose is running
and i am totally bumming
off I go to drink some tea
so all my readers feel sorry for me.

Paranoid much?

Once is awhile I get these strange paranoid thoughts. You know the ones that bring on mini-panic attacks. Well yesterday I went to this new nail salon here in town to get my eyebrows waxed. They brought me into the wax room right away and I laid down on the nice chair. They lady then began to powder, trim and wax my eyebrows. Then I had a paranoid thought. Now usually before they begin waxing they ask how you want your eyebrows done. As I was lying there I was thinking "holy crap she never asked how i wanted then done, All i told her was that I wanted my eyebrows waxed." And as she was yanking the strips off my eyebrows I thought "Oh my god what if she is waxing off my whole eyebrow! what if there was a language barrier and she thought I told her I wanted my eyebrows waxed OFF!" So I am starting to panic and she is still doing her thing and I want to reach up and touch my eyebrow but I can't because she is all up in my face still. There is no mirror anywhere near me. Finally she was finished and I immediately sat up and searched the walls for a mirror. I looked and I had 2 eyebrows still, and not only that but 2 good looking trimmed up eyebrows. After my sigh of relief I thanked the lady and told her that it was the least painful eyebrow wax I have ever had. I think the adrenaline rush from the panic help to ease the pain.

Noah's Arcade

So myspace is a crazy place. I found a high school classmate from a mutual "friend" and saw that she had her own children's clothing line called Noah's Arcade. Since I am always looking for new threads for The Phi I checked out her site. And was I wowed! The site was wonderful and just oozed coolness with its brown tones. The clothing line is for boys, but you know that boy's clothes are usually much cooler than girls. They had great and funny t-shirts for boys with slogans like " P.I.M.P (Poopie In My Pants)" complete with dog tags. They have a old school carnival strongest man with the words "My Daddy is the Strongest Man in the World". Just to name a few. They also had a few black zipper hoodies. We have been searching for a cool black zipper hoodie everytime we go out to the mall, and Noah's Arcade had a really awesome one. I emailed Shannon, my high school classmate, to see if they sold their line in any stores near me. The site has a great site locator and the line can be found in shops like Kitson Kids, This Little Piggy Wears Cotton in Santa Barbara (i love this place!) and Lisa Kline Kids. Shannon responded right away and because I am from her "hood" she mailed me out a hoodie for The Phi. I loved it even more in person.

A simple black hoodie and across the top of the hood in old english lettering is states

"Just Chillin In My Hood"

The front left has the Noah's Arcade logo.

And the cutest kid ever in the cutest hoodie ever.

If you branch out to girls clothes I have your model ready!

Shannon was right when she mentioned that the sizes run small, so a 4T was a perfect fit for The Phi. It is light enough for her to wear most days. So if you know any babies and kids out there that are just too cool for the conventional stuff you find at the mall check out Noah's Arcade. Tell them Punk Rock mom sent you!

After 4 long years...

PR Dad has been wanting to go to Sea World since we got together. His dream was finally realized on Monday. We both had the day off and since PR Dad and been cooped up in the house for days with some kind of illness, he decided late Sunday evening that we were going to Sea World the next day. We are only about an hour and a half away from gorgeous San Diego so we headed out in the morning and were there right after the park opened. We had such a great day. The Phi has not stopped talking about it and sleeps with her Sea World map close to her. When you purchase a ticket you get a pass for the whole year so we plan to go again really soon. The park is just the right size to see in a whole day. And did you know that they give out free beer samples! Now that is really fun for the whole family.

The Phi and PR Dad checking out the dolphins.

Getting ready for the Shamu show. She was antsy before the show started, but once it started she could not take her eyes off the whales.

At the tide pools we got to put our hands in freezing water and touch a starfish.

We stopped for lunch. The Phi has been carrying around this little lunch box. It is sitting next to me on my desk as we speak. Well at least we are getting our $6.99 worth.

The Phi checking out the Flamingos.

The manatee exhibit was closed, but I still made them pose in front of the statue. If you have ever been in my bathroom you know we have a soft spot for the sea cow.

She LOVED the penguins.

The Phi checking out the lazy polar bear.

Here Comes The Bride (again!)

If you are an avid reader and remember every single thing I write about then you know that my cousin Rosie (aka Woman) ran off and got married in Las Vegas last summer. So next month she is have all the bells and whistles and a big ol'wedding. This means all us ladies got together over the weekend for a bridal shower.

Here is the blushing bride and her yummy cake!
Chone as a toilet paper bride. I thought she was the best one.
Felix was digging the sunglasses in the kids goodie bags
oh the shame...these are my sisters....
Cutest God-daughter Ever Lili was running around all over the place.

My cousin Erika with a K had this really cute t-shirt on! I loved it.

It was a great party and a good turn out. And despite being yanked down and slapped in the face by a strange kid The Phi had a great time and had a hard time leaving her favorite cousin Chone. It was so great to see my niece, nephew and god-daughter. I've missed them soooo much.

**I realized that my message from yesterday was cut off so those of you who couldn't figure it out we were at Sea World in San Diego yesterday. Will blog all about it tomorrow**

I Love Phi

the phi has many many traits that she gets directly from her father. One of these traits is the overwhelming need to make people laugh. The phi has learned that a funny face or silly song will get a laugh. But her new thing makes me worry that we may have the next Lucille Ball on our hands. The phi has discovered the power of physical comedy. She knows that a fall can get a few laughs. Or dad and I gotten use to her antics but forget that other people are not aware of this outrageous need the phi has to be funny, no matter where or when. Of course this is leading to a phitastic story. The other day we were walking the mall. The phi was holding pr dads hand and we were talking toward a light pole. The phi saw the opportunity to be a comedian and instead of walking around the pole she walked into it. Of course she didn't really smack her face. She faked it complete with a over dramatic head flinging back. Then she stepped back and said to the pole "oh sorry". Pr dad and i don't bat an eyelash, but the girl walking behind us did. She gasped "oh my god!" then when she realized the phi totally fakes it the girl giggled. And my little jim Carey got her laugh.

A Snowy Valentine

We had a nice a very cold Valentine's Day.

We woke up in the morning and exchanged cards. (Well PR Dad and Phi exchanged cards.) Here is the card I made for PR Dad. Mom got totally snubbed this year!
We had planned on heading to Big Bear to the snow. What we did not expect was is t be snowing right outside our front door.
Even the XB got a nice new pair of snow cables. These things are very loud.
Finally made it to the icy lake.

The Phi was very excited to be in the snow. Here she is exploring while we put the cables on the car.
She loved the snow!

Instead of a card here is PR Dad and The Phis tribute to MOM.
Layered up and staying warm

PR Dad and The Phi back at the scene of the crime. The Alpine Sled Rides. Our first big weekend trip together was spent in Big Bear. About 3 hours of it was here with PR Dad trying to convince me to ride this thing.

We then had a nice lunch at an Italian place and walked the main street and window shopped. We made one stop at our little chocolate shop and headed home. It was sooo cold, but a lot of fun.

After all the excitment of the day she passed out before we even made it out of Big Bear.

What the F is happening to me?

Me, now.  So when I started this blog about 20 years ago it was a way to share my journey becoming a parent. I now have a 20 year old headin...
