Comadre Birthday Love x 30

My Comadre and one of my BFF's Dr. Patricia turns the big 3-0 today. EEKK!! This is a milestone to be celebrated! An here on PRP we celebrate by adding lots of pictures.

HAU Car Show back in the Santa Barbara neighbor days!
On her wedding day. A seriously great day!
Always the scholar, even while posing with statues in Palm Springs.
Wouldn't be a good Nina if she didn't give The Phi lots of frosting.

Don't be scared Lili. 30 is the new 20!
Feliz Cumpleanos Pato!

The best Dr. Nina burritos in town.
Patty is my older cousin and always been an important part of my life. One of my first words was "Patty". We have grown up together and now we will be old ladies together. Sharing wrinkle cream and canes. I love you so Patty. You are truly the trail blazer of this family and even though it could not have been an easy task you made it look like a cake walk.
Happy 30th Birthday!!

My Muse La Phi-rgen

Her new 'thing' is posing like La Virgen and it has inspired this non-artist to be artistic.

Racial Profiling in my Front Yard

Well after midnight last night we were awoken by a sharp knock on our front door followed by the doorbell ringing. I shook PR Dad and told him that Luis was at the door. The reason why I thought it was Luis was because he had borrowed PR Dad's Jeep to go to the UFC fights in Anaheim. We had been at a friend's house that night watching said fights. Luis was going to be returning the car last night. I just couldn't figure out why he would be knocking on the door because the plan was he was going to leave the key in the visor. So the knocking and door bell along with Roo barking woke up The Phi so as I stumbled into her room, PR Dad opened the door to "Banning PD, what is your name sir?" WTF. My heart started racing and I my mind working overtime with all kinds of crazy scenerios of what happened. So PR Dad stepped outside with the cop, he came back in for his wallet and went back outside as he was heading back to the door the cop yells (yes yelling into my house in the middle of the freakin night) back into the house "It's okay Mr. L****, your ID is not necessary." And he speed out in his car. Turns out the cop saw Luis drop off the car and leave the key and leave with his Mom in her car. Apparently the cop thought this was suspicious, and instead of running the plates on the jeep and seeing it was registered to our address and not reported stolen and going on his merry way. He woke up my whole family to ask PR Dad if he let someone borrow our car. PR Dad said the cop looked like he was 15 years old. I am sure he was an over excited newbie and although I am glad to know that there are cops patroling our neighborhood, He embarrassed the hell out of us, by making a scene with his light flashing in front of our house all because Luis dropped the car off late. Luis is a good kid, a good Mexican kid. A Mexican kid who apparently to the Banning PD looks like he steals cars.

weather is turning cold

weather is turning cold, originally uploaded by Punk Rock Mom.

The evenings are starting to get chilly here. It is so strange how quickly things can change just 2 weeks ago we were living inside with the a/c on 24/7 and now just look at The Phi, sweat pants, slippers and a knitted hat. When I picked her up today to take her to the office I had to put a jacket on her. I told her it was cold outside so when we walked out she kept telling me that it was snowing. And once the weather turns it means that Halloween is right around the corner (and so the big 3-0) I see you 30, stay the hell away from me! Anyways I am totally stumped as to what The Phi should dress up as. I am calling on my readers. Give me some ideas for The Phi, PR Dad and myself. We need some cool costumes. Man it has been years since I have dressed up for Halloween. Some of my past costumes have been a bride, witch, an angel, a french maid. I was even Scooby-Doo one year and my Mom made me a bone. But my sister Cari always had the best costumes, her Cyndi Lauper was such a hit (Bring it back!!) and she was a little China girl one year complete with white powder on the face (I know not very P.C. but it was the 80's). Halloween is such a great time of year. I remember one year when the Chone had a complete melt-down because she was dressed as Tinkerbell and her Mom wanted her to wear a long sleeve shirt under her costume. Chone refused and spent the evening staring out the front window crying. Last year we all meet up in Santa Barbara. This year since Halloween is in the middle of the week we are just going to meet in Moorpark and take the kids around the neighborhood. I just hope The Phi has some cool ass costume to wear.

I'm A Big Kid Now

Here is The Phi laughing in the face of Pull-Ups....

We broke down and bought a pack of Pull-Ups and after a half a day I don't know why. At the office I took her to the potty every half hour and she still peed and pooped in her pull-up. It was like she had on a diaper. The cool alert did not phase her. I need another alternative. At home I can leave her in just underwear, but I can't have her running around in just underwear at the office. There are laws against things like that.

And she does impressions...

And here is her impression of Tia Elaine....

Getting our kicks on Route 66

Every September downtown San Bernardino turns into classic car heaven for a few days. Since The Phi, PR Dad, and Sammy the Bull are all car enthusiasts we spent Saturday in the heat, admiring hundreds of cars. We had a lot of fun.

Old school truck with awesome turning signals.

A classic Woody ready for the beach.

The Phi and PR Dad ready for the Burn Out Competition

Yes it is a competition to see who can make the most smoke with their tires.

Sam, PR Dad and The Phi enjoying the show!

Family History

Grandma andGrandpa Watt on their honeymoon to Niagra Falls

John Watt (The Phi's great grandfather)

PR Dad's grandparents totally making out!

" Life's a great act. Play it right and put your "Watt"age in lights."

Swimming at Aunt and Uncles

The day of Tia Elaine's accident we had spent the afternoon having a great time visiting with PR Dad's Aunt, Uncle's and cousins. We had such a good time catching up and playing in the pool.

Since Bass Lake, The Phi has being begging to go swimming again. She finally got her wish and had a blast.

She had so much fun she feel asleep in PR Dads arms

And PR Dad had a few moments of pure bliss when his uncle let him sit on his Harley. I have to admit, he looks good on it!

LA County Fair

Now that Tia Elaine is home I can catch up on some blogging. A few Friday's ago we took the day off to head out to opening day of the LA County Fair. The day wasn't as hot as it had been but still warm.

Already trying to keep cool. The Phi has a strange obsession with misters.

Every year there are new "deep fried" items and this year there were some doozies! Deep fried frogs legs, deep fried avocado, deep fried peanut butter and banana sandwiches, deep fried coke (!?).

PR Dad tried the deep fried avocado. I think his face says it all.

The cuteness that is The Phi

I'm a sucker for these moments.

3 generation of Watt's

And the big highlight of the day was The Phi's trip on the giant slide!!

Unwanted changes

So my last blogger template died and went to template heaven. I know it went to heaven because it was such a good template to me. Well after freaking out, I took a lot of time to find a new one that would work and had comments. I am not in love with this one, but for now it will have to do.

Starbucks Cheerleader

Remember those Starbucks commercials where the guy or girl would drink a canned espresso and then a whole crowd would follow them around cheering for them. Well that has been my day today. I have had a 2 year old cheerleader following me around cheering me on while I do anything and everything from faxing a paper, to pouring coffee, to going pee-pee in the potty. My little one is right there with lots of "Yea Mommy"'s and "Go Mommy"'s. I must say its really nice.

On a super awesome note my sister was released from the hospital yesterday and is now home resting uncomfortably.

Thats Why They Call Them Accidents

My sister has been up and walking around. She is feeling better, but of course still in pain. She has started physical therapy and it looks like she will be going home tomorrow and this nightmare will be over soon. I saw pictures of the car there is no doubt that an angel was watching over my sister and Mikey during that accident. If the van that hit my sister would have hit her a foot or two further it was have hit her drivers door straight on and I don't even want to say what could have happened. And I have no doubt that the angel was our Roman. It was so awful to see my sister in a hospital bed full of dirt, blood and glass. Laying in pain. Being the only one there was tough, trying to stay calm, trying to reassure my sister, trying to follow all the different prognosis and procedures all the different doctors were giving me, and wording it so that my Mom didn't freak out too much. Everyday she gets better and starting to become more like the old Elaine, but with a neck brace and new lease on life. She is anxious to get home, and with how horrible hospitals are I do not blame her at all. Hospitals are horrible places. They are places filled with arrogant doctors who make patients and their families feel even worse than they all ready do. Where the wonderful nurses are too few and overworked. Where things are outrageously expensive, even the cafeteria. I can't wait until my sister is home and healed. Back to the outgoing 21 year old that we all love.

Good Vibes

My little sister Mercy was in a pretty bad car accident yesterday while leaving Palm Springs. I have been with her since the accident and she is pretty banged up with some pretty good gashes and broken ribs and vertebre. She is going to be fine, but for now she is hurting. This is just a quick update for family to let you know that she still is in the hospital and probably will be for a few more days. She is being tranferred from ICU to a regular room today and she is going to be fine. Please send good vibes out to her.

A Typical Evening

Here is a typical evening with The Phi. Please notice the beat boxing at the end. (Sounds like heavy breathing) Thanks Yo Gabba Gabba for turning my kid into a rap super star

Relief, Betrayal and Puppy Love

  1. Relief: There is finally some relief from this damn heat. This morning as we walked out the door about 8 am, it wasn't like we were walking through the gates of hell. The Phi did not melt into a puddle and I did not instantly become beat red. The weather was just normal. A nice a warm summer morning. And when we came home from work the house did not feel like an oven. In fact my first reaction was annoyance with PR Dad because I assumed he left the a/c on. But we all know what happens when I assume. I really hope this heat wave is behind us, because when it is 108 in your place its at least 10 degrees hotter here.

  2. Betrayal: Our beloved library has betrayed us. The Phi and I go to the library every week and we check out 5 kid books. We read them at night and they go right back into the library bag. I check the books and make sure that we have all 5 on library day morning. So imagine my surprise when they told me that we owed $4.95 for a kids book that we returned that's pages were stick together and the book had to be discarded. I was totally shocked. Today when I went to the library to drop off a book and pay the fine I pleaded my case. I told them how careful we were with library books, and how I checked them the morning we bring them back, and how a coincidence it was that they day I brought the said sticky book back was the day of the Summer Reading Program party, where the kids room was filled with children, jugglers, and punch. The guy behind the counter said there was nothing he could do about it (why right) and suggested that I check in the books with a librarian each time. So that's what we will have to do now.

  3. Puppy Love: The TV in our living room is permanently on Nickelodeon. So sometimes The Phi will leave it on after watching some SpongeBob. Because of this I have caught a few episodes of "Drake and Josh" and I am ashamed to admit that I really like the show and totally have a crush on Drake. I mean come on, he plays the guitar and sings and we all know what a sucker I am for a guy in a band. But the other day I reached a new low. I TiVo'ed the Drake and Josh movie and then watched the entire thing.

No worries he is 21 years old.

Jerry Lewis MDA Telethon

For as long as I can remember my Mom has watched and donated to the Jerry Lewis telethon every Labor Day weekend. We would sometimes save loose change in a jar all year to donate. My cousin Roman passed away only 5 months ago from Muscular Dystrophy at 19 years old. This year I can't watch more than just a few minutes without breaking down, because the pain of losing Roman is still so strong. Watching the kids and families speak is hard because even though they are struggling with the disease, they still have their kids with them. Please visit the website at www.mda.org, or call 1-800-Fight MD and make a donation.

Motherly Birthday Love

PRP Domestic Goddess Edition

PR Dad is working on this labor day. And so the crew decided to have a pot luck. So I decided to make cupcakes. I was determined to have the logo somewhere and after my first attempt bombed I went with little flags. PR Dad thought I was crazy, but he was the one that had to carry the tray of these into the store. Just wait until The Phi's school bake sales!!

What the F is happening to me?

Me, now.  So when I started this blog about 20 years ago it was a way to share my journey becoming a parent. I now have a 20 year old headin...
