How I Met PR Dad

Today it is the day to post about how you meet your "honey". Lets just start off by saying that I have never called PR Dad, "honey". Doesn't happen. We are those annoying couples that call each other "Babe". Yes just like Michael and Jan (The Office reference). Anyways if you ask PR Dad, "So how did you meet your amazingly talented and super cool wife?" He would answer "Who? Oh PR Mom! On the Internet". We have debated this fact many many many times. So here is my chance to tell the real story. Without him in the background yelling that we really me on the Internet. We did not "meet" on the Internet. We were not in a chat room or message board. But I will give him this, we got to know each other over late night instant message marathons- on the Internet. We met through a pop-punk band called The Erks. Many years ago, while at a Mest show in Hollywood my youngest sister and I met 2 guys named Eric and Marc. They were in the lobby of the venue passing out their little 3 song cd. We stopped and talked to them for while and we took the cd with us. My sister and I were on our way down to San Diego for another Mest show and we popped the CD into the Neon's cd player. We liked it. We liked it a lot. By the time we were in San Diego we were signing The Erks songs out then window. It helped that one of the songs was called "San Diego". We became fans and went to Erks shows, joined the street team and became friends with the guys. A few years later Marc left the band and auditions were held to find a replacement bass player. At this time somewhere in the CA desert, PR Dad and Uncle Matty were living together in a 2 bedroom apartment. Matt found out about this audition and told PR Dad about it. PR Dad was like "Hey I have heard of those guys. I have a demo that I got from them in my truck". So Matt auditioned and being the super awesome talented musician (or maybe The Erks were desperate) he become the bass player of the group. So at the next street team meeting (which was basically me and my sister) we met Matt and became fast friends. That summer The Erks played the Ernie Ball stage at Warped Tour. That day PR Dad was sitting at the Erks merchandise booth and just hanging out with Matt. He saw me for the first time. I would like to say sparks flew and he pursued me relentlessly, but that was not the case. I saw him for a brief second but it would not be the last encounter (duh obviously!) After Warped Tour more shows followed and PR Dad showed up to them all. He was quiet and handsome and quiet! Very quiet. Back in the desert PR Dad and Matt had their computers set up next to each other. And as I would IM with Matt, he would mention PR Dad and soon "Fowllikechicken" (him) and Judy23xxx (Me) were chatting it up on IM. And the really quite guy from the shows was funny. Like really really, lol-ing all the time, funny. We I was going through some tough time and he was there, to talk to and to make me laugh. We eventually moved from IM-ing to phone conversations, and then to meeting up and hanging out. The more we hung out, the more I wanted to be around him, until I had to be around him. We had our first kiss in the parking lot of a Norm's after a punk show at Chain Reaction. Then that Christmas he bought me a very very expensive purse and the rest as they say....is history. That is how I met my husband, my best friend and the love of my life.

PR Dad
Love you Babe!

Welcome Back, Welcome Back, Welcome Back

On Saturday we had a welcome home party for my cousin. Sgt. Gabriel Salazar. We were all so happy to have him home safe and sound.

We are so proud of you Mijo!
As a tribute to our fallen Solider Roman, my cousin in full uniform presented my Tia and Tio the flag that hung over his base in Iraq. It was an amazing tribute.
Tequila shots in honor of our hero!
Is it obvious she is mine?
High Five!
Then there was a pretty awesome cake fight!

A Message to Lyndsey & Isabella

Lyndsey rock. Seriously. She is a kick ass single Mom and freakin hilarious. She sometimes refers to me as Teller #4 and I love her dearly. She has a GORGEOUS little girl and just to make us all look bad, she is also graduating from college. She has a blog that I check daily, like I am a crazy stalker. I guess in a way I am. Oh and The Phi says "ocean" somewhere in the middle not "oh sh*t". And why do I talk so damn loud? I sound like my Mom!

Tuesday

So my kiss up to Tommy post worked and I am still his BFF. Thank God I did not have to resort to standing out side of his shop with a boom box over my head, all "Say Anything" style. That can not be good for business. Or maybe it would be great for buisnss. Lets just all be thankful that we will never now.

I got totally called out!

So after my post about my rave reviews on Grill-A-Burger I got called out by my BFF Tommyma. See my BFF Tom has a food establishment. He owns The Central Coast Steak & Hoagie in Simi Valley. He feeds us all the time his yummy cheese steaks and delicious french fries and what is fast becoming my favorite, the home-made potato chips. Tommy worked so hard and went through a lot of crap in getting this place open. But I had no doubt that he would do it and be successful.

See I meet a Tom about 8 years ago. He was my ex-husband's (husband at the time) boss. He also lived in the same apartment complex we did. Right across the parking lot from us. As my husband and Tom became friends, Tom and I become friends too. Soon we were going to the gym together, having dinner together, taking care of each other when we got sick. (Tom makes the bomb hot and sour soup!) We had cooking contests where we would pick a dish from a cook book, go shopping for all the ingredients and then make dinner for everyone. We would not tell them who made what and then they decided who made the best dish. (I totally won that one!) We made crazy Simpsons puzzles and went to family functions together.
And when my husband and I spilt up, Tom is so cool that he has remained close to us both without any conflict. In fact he lives with my ex-husband now. He has always been there for me and has been there to help celebrate all the big events. Even in a Dough boy costume.

Pillsbury Dough Boy

He has truly become one of the family. He is our Asian brother. My parents adopted son. And we are proud of his success. He comes on vacation with us an is considered one of us "kids".
He is a great Uncle to all the kids (even though he complains that he has too many nieces and nephews). I cannot even being to express how much I miss the days where Tom and I were inseparable. When he would take me for ice cream after I got a tattoo. Or when we would just go to the beach and hang out. And when Tom is around we are a complete and happy family.

So Tom, are we still BFF's??????

Weekly Weiners

Dude! Seriously where did this week go?? And as the weeks fly by my kid is getting closer and closer to turning 3! The birthday party invites are done and the details are getting hashed out! So for more weekly winners please visit, http://www.sarcasticmom.com/

One of the first blogs that I read was Girls Gone Child written by a amazing woman and writer named Rebecca Woolf. I felt so lucky to find her blog when I did. Her little boy is just one day younger than The Phi and many of her struggles mirror my own. Well she has just published a book all about becoming a mother and how important it is for the Mom and the child for the parent to hold on to thier passions in life. I read this book in a matter of hours and it was wonderful. Even the acknowledments made me cry!

We go to this park all the time and they have tennis courts and The Phi loves to watch kids play. When we were this this week a lot of the courts were empty and there are always random tennis balls everywhere. The Phi got to play around for awhile.

She wants to wear these shoes all the time because they are "like Daddy's shows"

The Phi is starting to become more girlie. All on her own and princess dresses and tea parties are all the rage in our house. Seriously though how cute is this? Her and her lamb having tea. And that blue dress. It was mine from one of my Tia's wedding. I must have been a tiny kid because the bodice of this dress was too small for The Phi. I couldn't zip it up on her!

mom dresses up too
And of course Mom has to dress up too!

The Phi is one complex little kid. Here is what she has been carrying aorund everywhere this week. Her new My Little Pony and her new red car. No gender roles here!

This was The Phi's fortune from when we went out to dinner with Uncle Sam.

Pretty fitting I thought.

So I am Totally Famous Now

I will need to buy big hats for all of us and even bigger sunglasses. I may even have to start wearing a blond wigs and hire a security team. See I am famous now. It has finally happened. I was recognized by a stranger from this here ol' blog. And I am just sure that this is just going to happen ALL the time now. See we were at at our usual hang out on Thursday night, Palm Springs. We headed to the our favorite restaurant ever "Grill-A-Burger" and who I believe is the owner came up to our table and said "Hey aren't you the people with the travel website?" PR Dad was like "no". The dude left and then I thought a minute. I got on the trusty cell phone and googled "Grill-A-Burger" and there I was, the third result, a blog post I had done about a year ago, just gushing about how much we loved Grill-A-Burger. (and seriously we LOVE this place). So I took my phone up to the guy and was like "Is this what you were talking about?" and he was like "Yes! So it is you guys!" Anyways he was totally grateful for my rave review of his place and even gave us free t-shirts

grill a burger

PR Dad and I are way stoked about our t-shirts.

So before I was "spotted" we had wandered the Palm Springs Art Museum because I needed some inspiration. My photography has been boring me lately. While we were there The Phi fell in love with a piece of art....

Phi found art she loved

I know, pretty adorable piece right? A giant fiberglass puppy.

So anyways, I am now famous. I will have to get use to people interrupting us when we eat, oh and all the paparazzi! I haven't "seen" them yet, but that just means they are really great at hiding. Or have super powerful lenses that can take pictures from miles away. Serioulsy I just felt someone take me picture!

Bloody Noses

So I have told you a few times about The Phi and her bloody noses. What I don't think I have told you is that she gets it from me. I don't know if this was a problem when I was a kid, but it is a problem now. I get bloody noses all the freakin time. I think they are stressed induced. If I am stressing about something enough my nose will just start dripping blood. Sometimes it just happens for no reason. Like yesterday, as I was washing my face before bed, I was rinsing the soap off so obviously the my eyes were closed. When I opened them my face was covered in blood. That made 2 bloody noses in 2 days. I am sure the heat has a lot to do with it, but it is just so inconvenient. You never know when its going to happen, or where you are going to be. Well at least she got something from me!

And PRP wants to send a giant shout-out to Tia Uh-laine because she is a rock star and got a nice raise at work!

Cycles

Argh, all 3 of us have been pretty moody. I am totally PMS-ing so I don't know what the issue is with the other 2. Maybe the heat got to them. I know the heat made sleeping miserable last night. We slept with the windows open for the first time this year, and since the last time we slept with the window open we got some ghetto-fabulous neighbors. Which makes for loud cars, and crying babies at all hours of the night!

Weekly Weiners

Another good week filled with remembering, work, portraits, baseball, and lots of love and laughter. Just a typical week in the Punk Rock Family house. For more weekly winners please visit Sarcastic Mom

(This picture was not taken by me, but I did edit it!)

On Monday my family all over remembered our cousin Roman, who passed away a year ago from Muscular Dystrophy. (And on Tuesday we celebrated his 21st birthday!) My cousin Karina and her husband Enrique live in Hawaii and had their own memorial for Roman. They threw a lei into the Pacific Ocean. Enrique is a Marine and saluted our fallen solider. As he stood over the cliff saluting our beautiful Roman a rainbow appeared. I cannot tell you how absolutely beautiful this picture is to me.
We are not one of those families that dress the same, but on Monday we proudly were.

I know she is mine and I am biased, but sometimes her beauty takes my breath away.
Peek-a-boo I see you!
Ahhh I love baseball games!
Phi and Mommy enjoying a Rancho Cucamonga Quakes game!

I like palm trees and pink, what can I say.

What the F is happening to me?

Me, now.  So when I started this blog about 20 years ago it was a way to share my journey becoming a parent. I now have a 20 year old headin...
