Week 20: Graphs, 8's, Traditions, Music vs Poetry and Planet Review

I cannot believe that we are already 20 weeks into the school year! But here we are. This week was a good fun week.

For math Phi is still working with me on her multiplication tables but I am proud to say that we are in the home stretch! She should be testing out of her 8's and starting her 9's today! For school assigned math we worked on different types of graphs. Phi had to conduct a few surveys to make her own graphs. Thanks everyone who helped us out!

For social studies we learned a little bit about the history of Brazil and Phi wrote a paper about traditions. The assignment was to write about 5 traditions she would keep is she had to move to another country. Her 5 were....

  1. Super Bowl Parties
  2. Pinatas
  3. Church
  4. Taco Night
  5. Bass Lake Trips

I think the most fun project this week was for language. The assignment was to pick a poem and rewrite or type it up. We went with typing. Here is the one Phi chose...

The next step was to find a song that had the same topic as the poem. We found the perfect song by the Bare Naked Ladies....

Step 3 was to compare and contrast the poem and the song. Again we opted for typing.

Then Phi had to write her own poem for the same topic...

The last part was to make something creative to go along with her poem. Phi drew a $5 bill and on the back listed 5 interesting facts about money. Did you know that in the U.S. there is more Monopoly money printed than actual currency? The more you know.

We ended the week studying for her upcoming test on the planets. Phi made study cards with 2 facts for each planet and is using the "My Very Eager Mother Just Served Us Nachos" to remember the positions of the planets.

For Week 21 Phi will start reading "The Tale of Despereaux" and I am keeping my fingers crossed that there is a lap book to go with it!
