The Phi wants a Hair Cut!

I have a love/hate relationship with The Phi's hair. It is thick, wavy, slightly frizzy and super long. It is a battle every single day. It is always always always tangled. I can comb it and braid it before bed and it will still be a battle to comb in the morning. There is always crying and loud "Owwwws!" It is beyond frustrating. On the other hand I love braiding it.

A few weeks ago The Phi asked if she could get a haircut. Like a short haircut. I was heartbroken. Despite all the drama when it comes to her hair. Despite the fact that is always looks messy. I do love her long hair. I think it is because those 5 minutes in the morning when the tangles are out and I get to braid it into a fish tail or french braid are so nice. It reminds me of the mornings with my Mom when she would braid my hair. When I was little my Mom managed to make my unruly hair look so pretty. I know, just like The Phi, I cried and complained the whole time, but it was one-on-one time with my Mom.

I convinced The Phi to keep her long hair until picture day.

Picture day was yesterday.

  1. My girls went from long to short and in-between, several times. You know my philosophy, "It's just hair". Our grandson Oden has ran the gambit, too. Crew-cut, mohawk, surfer-sloppy, it's just hair. Bob, too. Crew-cut, medium, side-parted, shoulder length.

Phi's long hair is beautiful. I so understand your feelings!!!

Don't get too down, Elissa. Hair has only one job and that's to grow. :) and grow and grow.

It will be interesting to see how short The Phi wants her hair. Hoping no shorter than her shoulders. This could be a positive things. Phi will learn that know matter the length of her hair it will always have the same texture and such.

She is a beautiful girl with beautiful hair. Who knows, you may love a shorter cut that frames her face?

Now, Mommy, NO CRYING at the hair salon! You better bring tissues...

    Love,
    Sherry P.

I definitely think you should let her decide. It's good for her to be independent and make her own decisions. And if she doesn't like it, it's an easy (and not harmful) way for her to learn that she has to live with the consequences of her decisions. JVS

    1. This morning I asked her again if she was sure. She said YES with no hesitation. Then I had that same thought. Her decision and she lives with the consequence. And hey she might love it!
