It almost been a week since November 4th and the reality of this election is still really sinking in. The historic significance of this country electing an African-American man as President. What this means to the kind of world that my little Mexican American 3 year old will grow up in. The idea of a black president will not be a far off idea, but instead the norm. When I tell her that she can be anything she wants to be I can say it a little easier without worrying about the obstacles she will encounter because she is brown or a woman. I am realistic, I know that she will still face some obstacles but now I can point to our 44th President as an example that with hard work and honor can get you. That the color of her skin won't make a difference, but the type of person she is will. It feels like such a huge step in the right direction for a better world. The more I think about it the more amazed and happy and grateful I am to have been a part of this. To be able to share the excitement and the hope with my daughter.

I feel the same way! As the mom of a son who is half African-American, this election outcome has been special to us not only as believers that Obama can bring much-needed change to America, but also on a personal level. I agree with you.. now when I tell AJ he can grow up to be anything he wants to be, he doesn't have to look further than our 44th President to see a reflection of someone just like him!
