Damn You Dan Brown!

So I haven't posted much about the everyday of whats been going on out here. Well if you have to blame someone point the finger at Dan Brown. For the last week or so I have spent what little free time I have, and any second Phi will let me reading "Angels and Demons". Now Boo recommended this book ages ago. So I borrowed it from Pops (my Dad) This was well over a year ago because The Phi was not around at the time. I tried reading it and could not get past the first 100 pages, so I put it down. Well with all the recent Da Vinci Code hoopla I picked it up again. And this time I could not put it down. Great read. Although it had more twists and turns the end was a bit hard for me to follow. But what an exciting read. Can anyone tell me if The Da Vinci Code is as good??

Okay funny story. That worm up there. The Phi got is as a gift from her grandpa for her b-day. Well I was messing with it tonite. See it has a function that when you press the letter is makes the letters sound. So I was trying to press "f" and "k" to make it say a bad word. It wouldn't!! Instead it said "f" and when I pressed k for the k sound it said "that tickles, k" I was shocked, had I hit something strange. I tried again and it did it again. So Joey tried "a" "s" and "c" "o" "k", and "d" "i" "k". I know we are horrible, but Leap frog has thought ahead and has programmed this toy so that kids can't accidently make bad words. Or so that parents can't make it say bad words. Way to go Leap Frog!

Well even with my head buried in a book I have still managed to keep The Phi alive and happy. She is sprouting new teeth! She has both her top teeth out of the gums. They are big and white and looks like she may have a gap! I loved front teeth with gaps!! She has also graduated to regular baths in the tub. No more bath chair. She loves it! She loved the splashing and the toys. We even had to by a non-skid mat for the floor. It is a giant pink flip-flop and we bought one of this ducks that stick to the wall that holds the toys. It amazing how much our whole house changes as The Phi gets bigger. She had her 1 year exam with her pediatrian (who we LOVE). The Phi is now a whopping 20 pounds and 1 oz and is 29 3/4 inches long. She feels a lot heavier than that. Her check-up went fine and both Phi and I cried during the 3 shots. When the doc was explaining what shots she was getting she said she was getting a chicken pox immunization! There is now an 80% chance she will not get chicken pox and if she does a very mild case. How awesome! And how old will Joey and I feel when we talk about an illness we had that has now been pretty much abolished by modern technology. It will be like my grandparents talking about polio! Anyways the doc said that 1 was the magic age and Phi could pretty much eat anything and that we needed to get her eating more "people" food. Although these days Phi is more interested in "dog" food. I am constanly moving her away from the dog bowl. So we headed to the grocery store and bought foods we thought would be okay for Phi to try. She is now eating, madarian oranges, regular applesauce, mac & cheese, trying different juices, eating cereal, and drinking whole milk. These transitions have been so freakin' easy for us. When we took the bottle away we just did it. She never complained. This switch to milk has been just as easy. One day I just gave her whole milk instead of formula and she didn't blink an eye. She will eat anything we put in front of her and this is all great. But I have learned the downfall to all this "people" food, "people" smelling dumps!!!" Another new thing for The Phi is how she travels. For the first year she was obviously in a rear-facing car seat (okay obvious to us, but maybe not Britney Spears!). After the doc okayed her weight, we headed to the Highway Patrol office to have a very nice officer re-install the car seat front-facing. Here is the view from a mirror I keep so I can keep an eye on her.

And if all these new developments were not enough, today was a big one. The Phi took her first 3 steps on her own. She was standing in front of her Dad, who was sitting on the couch. She let go of his knee and took 3 little steps. She hasn't done it since, no matter how hard we pled or beg. But this is the beginning people. My kid is going to be a upright homosapian any minute now!

I want to wish my Tata a happy happy birthday. I wish we could have been at your party today, but we send much birthday love from us to you. We love you, we appreciate you, we admire you, and we are very proud to be part of the wonderful legacy that is your family. Love por vida! ~ Joey, Elissa and The Phi

Honestly, I have to say that reading the Da Vinci Code was not as exciting as reading Angels and Demons. It is an easier read, but I wouldn't say that it was a page turner...just my opinion though.
