2013 Book Challenge

Last year I challenged myself to read 50 book. I ended up reading about 55 books total! I was surprised at how easy it was. I needed something to get me back into the groove of reading, and baby Elissa's got her (reading) groove back. You know who doesn't have a reading groove???

ALL THE OTHER PEOPLE IN MY HOUSE.

The Phi is a really good reader, she just doesn't like to do it. It breaks my heart I tell ya! Now I know that to raise a reader you have to show them your love for reading and READ TO THEM! Phi still likes to listen to me read a picture book at night but I wanted something a bit more intense.

So for 2013 I have set a goal to read 1 chapter book a month WITH The Phi.

As a good grades gift The Phi's God-Parents gave her a 15 book set of Beverly Clearly books. An amazing gift and we went straight to it when it was time to pick our first book.........

Any suggestions for February's book???

  1. Ivy and Bean by Annie Barrows is the one I usually recommend. Bob and I are both big readers, but one of our daughters didn't start enjoying reading until she was in her late 30's. Don't force it, just model good reading habits. Congrats on the 55 books.

  3. Siobhan reads a lot. I tried to get her to use GoodReads.com just to keep track of the books she has read but I don't think she keeps it up. If you get the Phi to do it, I think it is a great way to look back.

Have you heard of the Fudge Series also by Judy Blume? I read 3 of them in about 5th grade and I loved them! I still have distinct memories of certain scenes from those books. Very relateable for older siblings. Here is the series in order:
    1) Tales of a Fourth Grade Nothing*
    2) Otherwise Known as Sheila the Great
    3) Superfudge*
    4) Fudge-a-mania
    5) Double Fudge*
    *books I read
    Love, Seli:)
