Tone

We set up this photo and I took a few steps back to shoot when a boy came and stood right in front of me. So I tapped his shoulder and politely asked him to move for a quick second so we could take the picture. And then we moved on and I never thought of it again.

Until The Phi brought it up like 3 days later. She asked me...
"Mom why do people talk to kids with weird voices?"
She explained to me that adults use high almost baby voices to talk to kids.
"Like when you asked that kid to move at the aquarium.
You used a nice voice. Not your normal voice"
So I explained to her that I was just being nice. And then she walked away and under her breathe I heard.
"You never talk to us like that."

Apparently I only growl at my kids in a mean voice.
I think I will only talk to her in my "nice" voice for an entire day.

  2. This is so funny. The Phi is pretty sharp.

I love to note the change in a person's voice when they get on the phone. I used to work with a guy who had the lightest voice ever, but when he answered the phone he took it down two octaves. It reminded me of what a small child would do if she were pretending to sound like a dad.
