Ancient Artifacts

I can remember having 8 tracks laying around my house when I was little.

I had a ton of cassette tapes. Many bootlegged ones from the swap meet. I remember the first cassette single I bought was "Buffalo Stance" by Neneh Cherry.

"Wearing padded bras sucking beers through straws
Dropping down their drawers, where did you get yours?"

Really my Mom let me listen to such filth?

I also remember when we got our first cd player. From my memory it was a rainy day. I want to say sometime around Christmas. We had suffered sitting in the rain through a local parade. We went into a stereo shop that was located right under the clock tower in Main Street. We wandered and my Pops fell for this big stereo system. Complete with giant (37 inch was giant to us ) TV, dual deck tape player, a turntable for records (and boy did we have records), big giant speakers and a cd player. I think it cost us about $2000 and my god that was a lot of money. I am sure my Mom was freaking out about making such a purchase. My Pops let me pick 2 cds. I chose Like a Virgin by Madonna and Through the Fire by Chaka Khan.

Fast forward to the other day in the car. The Phi had received a KidzBop cd in her happy meal. She thought it was a movie. I told her it was a cd with music and that we could play it in the car. I took the cd out of the paper sleeve and put it into the cd player. The Phi asked...

"Mom how are we going to get the movie out of there"

She had never seen a cd player work before. All she knows is ipods.

Crazy.

I am old.

So funny. Elias always tells me I'm old. Do you remember making the record player skip during square dancing with Ms. Wilde? I wonder if she's got her square dancing songs on a Ipod. I wonder if she's even alive??

  3. Oh I had a record player, and lots of records. Madonna, Weird Al, and Michael Jackson. Loved it. My kids have never seen a tape, let alone a record.
Our music comes out of the computer complete with sub-woofer. Or the digital channels on TV. We don't even have a stereo system in the living room.
It's nice to look back, but sucks to think about being old.

Luka almost pissed his pants with laughter.... I'm sure Cyrus would love to loan the Phi all his so that she can download them to her ipod.
